Arteriosclerosis - What is Arteriosclerosis ?
Definition:
Arteriosclerosis is a disease in which the arteries thicken and cholesterol get deposited on the inner lining of arteries. The arteries become inelastic, and narrowed, increasing the stress on the heart, as it tries to pump more blood.
Arteriosclerosis is a chronic condition which is generally characterized by the formation of plaque of cholesterol, platelets, fibrin, and other substances on the arterial walls. It can slow down your blood circulation or even blockage of the arterial circulation. It develops with aging, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and some other conditions.
Arteriosclerosis can occur because of calcification of the wall of the arteries, or thickening of the muscular wall of the arteries from chronically elevated blood pressure.
