Signs and Symptoms of Backache
Backache can appear abruptly after a physical activity or may develop slowly. You may feel like a sharp jab or a dull ache. The pain be sometimes so piercing that a person who is bending over, may not be able to straighten up. Usually, most of the types of muscular back pain go away within a week or two of their onset, but sometimes it may last for even a month or two. Pain may reappear if you don't take necessary preventive measures.
Some Important Symptoms for Backache are:
- Pain or Stiffness anywhere along your spine, from the base of the neck to the hips.
- Limitation in movement of the spine - especially bending forward and leaning back - gives lot of pain.
- Although pain can occur anywhere in the back, the majority of backaches occur in the lower back, which is generally called as lumbago.
- Sharp, localized pain in the neck, upper back, or lower back, especially after lifting heavy objects or engaging into any other strenuous activity.
- Tense spasm of the muscles surrounding the spine and causing a stiff back.
- A pain may be in the middle of the back or in the lower back, especially after sitting or standing for long period of time. The pain may even spread to both sides of the waist and the hips.
- Occasionally there is visible curvature of the spine, but usually there are no apparent external symptoms.
- About ninety per cent of backache patients also suffer from cervical pains.
