Causes of Cataract

Some important causes of cataract are:

• Age Related Cataract - In most of the cases, the main cause of cataract are related to aging. Types of age related cataracts are Nuclear cataract , Cortical cataract and Posterior sub capsular cataract.
• The other main cause of cataract is the deterioration of the normal structure within the lens of the eye with age.

There may be other causes like:

• Diabetes.
• Kidney disease.
• Glaucoma.
• Eye injuries.
• Infection.
• Inflammation inside the eye.
• Cataracts can also be caused by an injury or blow to the eye, or by certain prescription drugs such as the steroids cortisone and prednisone.

Some Other Risk Factors for Cataract include:

• Heavy alcohol consumption.
