Causes for Conjunctivitis

There are several Causes of Conjunctivitis:

• Bacterial (e.g. from an infectious cause).
• Viral (e.g. from cold viruses).
• Allergic (e.g. from hay fever).
• Chemical (e.g. from lab chemical fumes).

Excessive use of the eyes in one way or the other, can also lead toward the formation of conjunctivitis.

Conjunctivitis can be classified as infectious or noninfectious. Infectious Conjunctivitis is caused by either a bacteria (usually staphylococci, pneumococci, streptococci). Non-infectious Conjunctivitis can be caused by allergies (such as pollen or grass).

Some possible Causes of Conjunctivitis are:

• Air pollution may lead to conjunctivitis.
• A partially blocked tear duct is a possible cause.
• A deficiency of vitamin A may also lead to the eye problems such as conjunctivitis.
• Certain illnesses, such as measles, may trigger conjunctivitis.
• Some sexually transmitted diseases can cause conjunctivitis.
• Injury to the eye.
