Causes for Cough

Whooping Cough or pertussis ( a more serious form of cough ) is an infection of the respiratory system which is caused by a bacterium named Bordetella Pertussis. This bacterium is usually carried away through infected droplets of water coming from any infected persons coughs or sneezes. The Bacteria once in the respiratory tract, keep on multiplying itself. There are many possible causes of cough, ranging from allergies to lung infection and cancer.

Some possible causes for cough include:

  • Cold viruses: This is the most common cause for a cough. It often causes a postnasal drip and that causes a cough.
  • Pneumonia : It is an infection in the lungs. It may be caused by viruses or bacteria. And once pneumonia is caused, it may lead to coughs.
  • Asthma: Asthma is another main cause of coughs in many asthma suffering patients.   This may be triggered by viruses or an allergic trigger like dust, smoke.
