Definition:Cough is defined as a sudden, often repetitive, spasmodic contraction of the thoracic cavity, resulting in violent release of air from the lungs. It is a reflex that forces air from the lungs with a sudden distinctive noise. Some coughs are dry, while others are productive. A productive cough brings up mucus.
