Symptoms of Depression

The following are the classic signs and symptoms that a doctor looks for when considering a diagnosis of depression:

• You spend a lot of time thinking about what has gone wrong, what will go wrong or what is wrong about yourself as a person.

• You have difficulty sleeping at night or waking up early early in the morning and if once waked then can't sleep again. You seem to dream all night long and sometimes have disturbing dreams.

• You may have physical aches and pains which appear to have no physical cause, such as back pain.

• Decrease or sometimes increase in weight of the suffering person.

• Sluggish Activity.

• Loss of energy.

• Sometimes patient may feel useless or hopeless.

• Difficulty in concentrating at anything, may take a very long time for making a small decisions.

• You feel you have no confidence.

• Loss of appetite.

• Insomnia.

• In some severe cases of depression, thoughts of death or suicide may also come in patient's mind, he may even do suicidal attempts.

• Depressed mood for most of the day.
