Introduction:

Dry skin is a common problem. It occurs mainly to the people who live in a cool climate. However, it can also occur to those people who uses soaps that are harsh on the skin and comes in contact with water repeatedly.

Treatments:

Self Care Treatment

Dry skin is not a very serious problem so you can cure it by following some self care tips at home, such as:

•  Try to avoid prolonged exposure to water. It is evident that water is helpful in maintaining the moisture of skin but exposure to water for a very long time is harmful as it can dry your skin and can cause itching also.

•  Take oatmeal bath twice in a week. It is helpful in maintaining the moisture of the skin for extended hours.

•  Always use mild soaps. Avoid soaps that contain perfumes as it can be very harsh on the skin and can cause itching sensation.

•  Always try to keep your skin cool. Avoid bathing with hot water even in winters because it can extract the necessary oils from skin surface that can cause roughness of skin.

•  Minimize your exposure toward sun as much as you can because the ultraviolet radiations of sun can make your skin dry.

•  Always avoid alcohol because liver requires more water for its digestion. So if you drink heavily then it can reduce the water level of body and skin, which can make the skin to get dry.

Medical Cures

If the problem of dry skin is severe then you need to consult a doctor. He can suggest you the following skin care products:

Sunscreen: It is helpful in protecting your skin from the harmful radiations of sun.

Moisturizers: Moisturizers are helpful in maintaining the moisture of skin. It also plays the role of a protecting barrier for damaged skin cells and provides them the time to repair from damage.

Exfoliators: These are helpful in the resurfacing of skin. Salicylic acid is the best exfoliator, so look for the products that contains it as their main ingredient.
