The signs of epilepsy are strange behavior, muscle spasms, convulsions etc. In some cases the sufferer can loose his consciousness also. There can be so many causes of epilepsy. Generally the factors that affect the working of nerve cells are responsible for the occurrence of this disorder. Generally abnormal brain development, brain injury and brain illness are the main causes of the Epilepsy disorder. The physical changes occurring in body because of this disorder are known as elliptical seizures. It is a common brain disorder that is found in people all across the world. Epilepsy is a treatable disorder and can be easily treated with proper medicines and surgical treatments.

Every seizure cannot be regarded as Epilepsy as the convulsions in the young children can also occur because of other medical problems.

Causes and Types of Epilepsy

Epilepsy can be divided into different types based on their underlying causes:

Symptomatic Epilepsy:

It generally occurs because of any change in the normal brain structure. The structure of brain can be abnormal by birth or it can get abnormal in the later stages of the life. Tests like EEG and brain scans are suggested by the neurologists to know the exact condition of brain in this type of Epilepsy.

Idiopathic Epilepsy:

There is no evidence for the causes of this type of Epilepsy but genetic factors are considered as the main cause of this type of brain disorder. The person suffering from this type of disorder generally shows no sign of abnormalities. It can be treated with the help of proper medications.
