Defination
When the body temperature rises above the normal range (98.4 deg. Fah.) and there is heat all over the body, it is called fever. Fever owes its origin to a particular cause or multiple causes and nomeclation of each type of fever has been made on the basis of the causes which trigger it. There can be no fever in the absence of any cause, and fever is simply an effect of a cause or set of causes.
Categories
In Ayurveda, fever has been categorized into 8 main varieties such as -

Vata Jwar - Fever due to Air predominance.

Pitta Jwar - Fever due to Bile predominance.

Kapha Jwar - Fever due to Cough or Phlegm predominance.

Vata-Pitta Jwar - Fever due to wind & cough predominance.

Vata-Kapha Jwar - Fever due to wind & cough predominance.

Pitta-Kapha Jwar - Fever due pile and cough predominance.

Sannipat Jwar - Delirium where all the three humours get vitiated.

Agantuk Jwar - Fever due to external factors such as accident, shock, extra labour etc.
