Halitosis (Bad Breath) - Introduction
Definition:It is an oral health condition characterized by consistently odorous breath. Halitosis produces a wide array of smells associated with bad breath. Halitosis is derived from the Latin word "halitus," which means breath, and the Greek suffix "osis," which means condition. The main origin of all bad breath odors emanate from the mouth itself, although non-oral parts such as the upper and lower respiratory tracts, the gastrointestinal tract, and some diseases involving the kidneys or the liver may also be the reason for halitosis. Halitosis is a common and universal problem that can lead to a significant amount of social disharmony and embarrassment. Regular dental check ups & cleanings, flossing daily, and brushing your teeth & tongue twice a day can greatly reduce and possibly eliminate halitosis.
