High blood pressure is also known as hypertension. It may be defined as - high blood pressure is a blood pressure reading of 140/90 mmHg or higher -- a systolic pressure above 140 with a diastolic pressure above 90. High blood pressure suffering patients have an increased risk of developing heart disease and stroke.
Blood Pressure of any person keeps on varying throughout the day. An optimal blood pressure is less than 120/80 mmHg.
High blood pressure or hypertension means high pressure (tension) in the arteries. The arteries are the vessels that carry blood from the pumping heart to all of the tissues and organs of the body. High blood pressure is called the silent killer because it usually has no symptoms.
