Influenza CausesAlternative Name: Flu
Influenza is a disease caused and spread by a virus, which attacks our body cell's, resulting in various effects depending on the strain of the virus. Influenza viruses belong to the Orthomixovirus family and can infect humans and some animals. The characteristics of influenza viruses mutate often and easily, which is why each year a new strain of influenza virus circulates. The influenza virus changes itself often and new variations (strains) go on arising. So, immunity against one strain does not give you immunization against other strains. In the era of rapid air transport the worldwide spread of a new type of influenza can be extremely fast. The flu spreads very easily from one person to other through respiratory droplets which come when a person already infected from influenza coughs or sneezes. Sometimes people may also become infected by touching something containing influenza virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose, or eyes, by doing this influenza virus transfers to the person touching influenza virus.
