What is Measles?Measles is a highly infectious viral disease caused by a paramyxovirus of the genus Morbillivirus. It is one of the most unpleasant and the most dangerous of the children's diseases that result in a rash. This is due to the complications of the disease. Although the rash is the most common sign of measles, it is just an outward symptom of what is mainly a respiratory infection. Measles is not so severe disease and its symptoms usually go away on their own without any medical treatment once the virus has run its course. But while the child is suffering from measles, his proper care is very essential - you should give your child plenty of fluids to drink and give your child complete rest. Also you must keep your child away from others as its a very contagious disease and easily spreads to other children. If the condition of of child is serious, you must visit a doctor. Before there were any vaccinations availaible against measles, there used to happen lot of measles epidemics, afflicting thousands of people, amoung which most common were young children. But, now as the vaccination has been discovered, the condition has improved a lot and its incidence is reduced to about 100 cases a year in the United States.
