Nausea - Introduction
Definition:
Nausea is the sensation of unease and discomfort in the stomach with an urge to vomit. The nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy, commonly called morning sickness, affects about half of all pregnant women.
Nausea is not diseases, but symptoms of many different conditions, such as infection, food poisoning, motion sickness, over-eating, blocked intestine, illness, concussion or brain injury, appendicitis and migraines.
Nausea doesn't always lead to vomiting. But vomiting is the forcible voluntary or involuntary emptying of stomach contents through the mouth.
Nausea can be acute and short-lived, or it can be prolonged. When prolonged, it is a debilitating symptom. Nausea (and vomiting) can be psychological or physical in origin.
