Pancreatitis Introduction and Its Main Types
It is generally a disorder in which the inflammation of pancreatic duct or bile duct takes place. The pancreatic duct is a gland that is present behind stomach and very near to duodenum or the small intestine. The main function of pancreas is the secretion of digestive enzymes and juices in small intestine with the help of a tube called pancreatic duct or bile duct. The enzymes secreted by pancreatic ducts combines with bile which is a fluid released by liver. This combination is responsible for the digestion of food. Pancreatic duct is also responsible for the secretion of hormones such as insulin and glucagons. These hormones are required by body to regulate the flow of glucose in blood stream to generate energy required to perform various activities. But during pancreatitis disorder the tissues which secret digestive hormones are badly affected. Pancreatitis can be of two types: Acute Pancreatitis: In this type the inflammation of pancreas can occur temporarily for some days and can be diagnosed after some days of treatment. It is observed that acute pancreatitis generally lasts within 2 to 5 days and can be treated easily with the help of oral drugs. There are chances of complications during treatment of pancreatitis and these are the danger signs for the sufferer. The main cause of this type of disorder is the presence of grain like stone in pancreatic gland that can block the gland. Addiction of alcohol can also be a cause of the acute pancreatic disorder. The other reasons for the occurrence of acute pancreatitis are infections, tumors and general abnormalities of pancreas. Chronic Pancreatitis: It is a disorder in which the condition of pancreas does not improves with time that can cause permanent damage to the pancreatic ducts. This disorder is the result of attack on nearby tissues of pancreas that are responsible for secretion of enzymes. This disorder tends to develop in the people that fall between the age group 30 to 40. The main cause is the consumption of alcohol for very a long period of time.
