Pneumonia Treatment

Bacterial Infection- It is the infection caused by bacteria. Pneumonia caused by bacteria are usually treated with antibiotics which you may need to take for at least 7-21 days, depending on which type of infection is suspected. In some cases, you may start felling better in the beginning only, but be sure to complete your entire course of antibiotics, otherwise disease will start again.

Viral Infection - It is the infection caused by viruses. Pneumonia caused by viruses cannot be treated with antibiotics. However, antibiotics may be needed in some other infections caused by chicken pox and herpes viruses.

It takes more time to recover from viral pneumonia than bacterial pneumonia.

Mycoplasma - Mycoplasma pneumonia are treated with antibiotics. This form of pneumonia takes long time to recover, it may take up to 4-6 weeks to recover from this type of pneumonia.

If you have reached to a severe stage of pneumonia, for especially very young and old people, the person may need to be hospitalized. The person may also be put on oxygen, in order to raise the oxygen levels in the blood, and some patients may need to be given fluids by transfusion or other supportive measures.
