Ringworm - Introduction
Definition:Ringworm is a general term for a common fungus infection on the skin. Scientifically, it is called 'Dermatophytosis'. Ringworm can affect skin on your body , scalp , groin area , or feet. Pets, such as dogs or cats, may be a source of transmitting the disease to humans. Ringworm, also known as Tinea. It is very common among children, and may be spread by skin-to-skin contact, as well as via contact with contaminated items such as hairbrushes. It is common in males than in females, ringworm is characterized by patches of rough, reddened skin. There are many types of ringworm and each is caused by a different type of fungus i.e. 1) Body ringworm is also known as tinea corporis. 2) Scalp ringworm is called tinea capitis. 3) Ringworm of the groin is also called tinea cruris. 4) Ringworm of the nails is also known as tinea unguium.
