Scabs develop and then separate and fall off after about 3-4 weeks, possibly leaving pitted scars.
Some of the common symptoms of smallpox are:
- Fever and Chills.
- Muscle and Joint Aches.
- Severe Fatigue (prostration).
- A flat, reddish-purple rash appears, after 48-72 hours of initial symptoms on the chest, abdomen, and back.
- Delirium.
- Multiple organ inflammation.
- Vomiting and Diarrhea.
