Causes

Sore Throat Menu

Sore throat is a symptom of many medical disorders and infections. Sore throats can be caused by many things including viruses such as adenoviruses, flu, the common cold, glandular fever, mononucleosis, or by bacteria such as strep, mycoplasma, or hemophilus. Coughing can also irritate the throat, and so can post-nasal drip from a cold.

Another common bacteria causing sore throat is "Arcanobacterium Haemolyticum". Arcanobacterium causes sore throats mainly in young adults and is sometimes associated with a fine red rash.

Some other things which may lead to sore throat may be:

  • Too much Smoking.
  • Breathing in Polluted Air can lead to sore throat.
  • Drinking lot of Alcohol.
  • Sometimes sore throat is also caused after hay fever.

If your sore throat continues for more than 2 weeks then it can be a sign of a serious illness like cancer or AIDS. So, you must contact your family doctor for advice. You may also contact him if you have some other concerns about the patient.
