Herbal Treatment for Insomnia
Some of the Common Herbal Remedies for Insomnia:Herbs and Herbal Therapies - Insomnia can be relieved by the use of sedative herbs such as hops and valerian are used to relax the nervous system to that you enjoy natural, restorative sleep. Numerous plants have sedative action. Plants commonly prescribed as aids in promoting sleep include: passionflower , hops , valerian, skullcap , and chamomile. Milk and Honey - A cup of warm milk sweetened with honey should be taken before going to bed. Take it everyday. Lemon balm Tea - Lemon balm tea is extremely relaxing and induces sleep. Valerian tea - Prepare valerian tea in the morning by adding 2 teaspoon of valerian root to 2 cups of warm water. Onion - Take raw onion with meals particularly with dinner. Tulsi - Patient may be given a leaf of tulsi for chewing, and also spread some tulsi leaves below patients pillow and the corners of bed below the bedsheet. As the smell of tulsi leaves will strike the person's nostril, the person will start feeling sleepy and soon he will fall into sleep. Curd - Consume plenty of curd. Also massage head with curd before washing. This is very helpful. Cumin Seeds - Take some cumin seeds and fry then in a very little amount of ghee. Now grind then into powder form. One teaspoon of this powder - mixed with the pulp of a ripe banana may be given to the patient suffering from insomnia at night daily. Fenugreek Leaves and Honey - Two teaspoons juice of fenugreek leaves alongwith 1 teaspoon honey may be taken daily. Celery Leaves - Juice of celery leaves (ajwain ka patta) with thick ribs and brittle stalks mixed with a tablespoon of honey when had at night before retiring helps to relax into a restful sleep.
